To keep your desktop computer running smoothly, it’s important to regularly clean your device and keep up with software maintenance. With these simple tips, you can keep your desktop in top shape!
External Computer Maintenance
Before you start, make sure your computer is turned off and that your work area is clear of clutter.
Dirt and dust are the most common culprits for overheating problems. Clogged vents and CPU cooling fans can keep heat from moving through the case, and dust can raise the computer’s temperature. To prevent this from happening, regularly wipe the monitor case and clear dust and dirt from its vents. You can use compressed air, but be careful to not blow dust into the computer!
Keep your screens spotless using a lint-free microfiber cloth. Non-microfiber cleaning cloths, paper towels or other fabrics may leave streaks, lint, and micro-scratches. If you have a stubborn smudge, lightly dampen the cloth with lukewarm water and rub. You should never use household cleaners or apply water directly to the computer screen.
Keyboards inevitably trap crumbs and dust, so evict bacteria and past lunches from your keyboard is by cleaning it regularly. First, unplug your keyboard, tilt it to the side, and shake to get rid of any loose debris. Use compressed air to clean out the inside of the keyboard and a cotton swab or a damp cloth to clean the keys.
Internal Computer Maintenance
