How to Better Prep for Grilling Season

Warmer days are here, meaning the time has come to prep for backyard cookouts and barbecues. Cleaning your grill is and important practice to uphold your title as King of the Pit. Here are some SIMPLR tips for getting your grill in shape for summer!

Back to the Basics

Starting out with a clean grill is a must-do, so stick to warm, soapy water and a sponge to work off last year’s lingering grit and grime. Another simple solution involves soaking grill grates in a mixture of ammonia, vinegar, water and baking soda to leave them squeaky-clean. We recommend using garbage bags to soak grates in the mixture for 24 hours, followed by hosing them down.

Avoid Wire Bristles

Even though wire bristles seem like the foolproof and basic way to get grunge off your grill, they can actually dislodge from your brush and end up in someone’s hamburger. Consider using brushes with nylon bristles, a grill cleaning block (pumice for grills) or a wooden scraper instead. These options are both user and burger-consumer friendly!

Don’t Put Your Back into It

If you’d rather sit back and let a device do the work for you, try products like the Grillbot or a grill brush with a steam cleaning feature. The Grillbot does all the work for you with its removable dishwasher safe brushes! Simply place the Grillbot on the grill, press a button and let it do the cleaning. Grill brushes with steam features require a little bit of elbow grease, but the steam softens residue for easy removal and makes cleanup a breeze.
